Not long ago I had the privilege of capturing the ACC Fire Academy’s live burn practice…
These guys and girls are learning the skills needed to keep their cool in a high-stress situation…
How to act in the face of danger, yet still stay safe as possible…
They will have been in school for nearly a year, been tested, and tried in different situations…
They have to learn to work as a team to perform many tasks, and learn what it means to be a true team…
They desire to become part of a long-standing Brotherhood, and the women, a much new Sisterhood…
It is a job like no other…
You see many things, some no human should have to see, others that will make you cry from joy…
Yet frequently, they will only cry in private…
And often they will make jokes around the station dinner table that only they can understand why…
They are the unsung heroes of today…
I miss my days of wearing that uniform…
And still, respect the job…
Can someone point me to the nearest burning building or major trauma?
